July 1, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I want to share the preliminary plans for the start of school on August 24, 2020 with you all as the safety of our students is our top priority. As plans currently stand, Meriwether County Schools will resume operations on August 24, adhering to the recommendations made by the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Georgia Department of Education, as well as Executive Orders from the Governor.
The preliminary plans as of today, July 1, 2020 include:
· Surveys are being drafted for parents and stakeholders to share their thoughts regarding the start of school. Plans are also being made to have virtual or call-in meeting(s) to allow the public to provide input regarding the start of school.
· The School District plans to allow flexibility so parents can determine which teaching and learning option is best for them – traditional school or remote learning.
· Facilities and buses are thoroughly being cleaned and disinfected. Personal Protection Equipment (masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, etc.) are also being purchased for the start of school and will be provided to all students and faculty for the 2020-2021 school year.
Meriwether County Schools will continue to communicate updates as these plans become finalized primarily through the district website: www.mcssga.org. Once all input and data are considered, the school system will finalize a plan for the restart of school on or before July 31, 2020. Please keep in mind that as situations change, these plans may change.
We have tremendous community and parental support, and we do not take those relationships for granted. I encourage your feedback as we realize this pandemic has created undue stress on our students, parents, and staff.
We appreciate our students, parents, and staff, and we want to be there for each of you.
